The SignalPro signal conditioning and channel expansion system provides a complete solution for all of your data acquisition applications by supporting a wide range of transducers. The SignalPro system provides the transducer with excitation when required and then performs the necessary “conditioning” of the electrical output signal from the transducer prior to measurement by an analog-to-digital converter. They are compatible with the DAQ-1200 series plug-in cards, and the entire DAQP series PCMCIA data acquisition adaptors, and will not only provide signal conditioning and excitation, but can expand the total number of input channels up to 256. (See section D1 for these cards).

The SignalPro series includes signal conditioning modules that enable the user to create data acquisition systems for transducers such as thermocouples, RTDs, strain gages and accelerometers, as well as voltage and current measurements.

Channel Expansion
SignalPro series modules can provide up to 16 channels of transducer input by multiplexing to a single analog to digital (A/D) channel of the data acquisition card (such as the DAQ-1200 series) in the host computer. The multiplexers on a SignalPro series module work like a switch, scanning each transducer input channel and connecting the input to the selected input channel on the data acquisition card. Some modules provide less than 16 input channels, yet allow multiple modules to share a single A/D channel. For example, the QTC-250 RTD signal conditioning module has eight input channels. Two QTC-250 modules may share one A/D input channel to provide 16 transducer input channels per A/D channel. Multiplexing to all 16 main A/D channels a data acquisition card in the host computer results in a maximum of 256 A/D transducer input channels per data acquisition card.

System Description
There are two types of SignalPro systems, rack mount and portable systems. The rack mount system consist of a 7 or 14 module expansion enclosure, up to 14 input modules and a power supply. The portable systems consist of a single module enclosure, single input module and power supply. Whereas with the rack mount systems, the enclosure input modules and power supply are specified individually to provide the maximum flexibility. The portable systems consist of one integrated compact unit ideal for field applications. Both the portable and rack mount systems connect to a computer through one of OMEGA’s data acquisition cards. The SignalPro works with OMEGA’s DAQ-1200 ISA plug-in cards and the DAQP family of PCMCIA cards. These cards include the DAQP-12A, DAQP-16, DAQP-208 and DAQP-308.

How to Put Together a Rack Mount System

1) Choose a 7 or 14 Slot Expansion Enclosure
The QTE-7 and QTE-14 are ruggedized, 19-inch rackmountable enclosures that can hold 7 and 14 input modules respectively.

2) Add Input Modules
Input modules are available with up to 16 inputs for almost every common sensor type. Some modules include an integral connector for field termination while others include a detachable screw terminal panel. The table below summarizes the available input modules.

3) Finish with a Power Supply
The QTE-7 and QTE-14 enclosures can be powered directly from 90 to 260 Vac @60 Hz. Two optional power modules are available. The QTC-100 and QTC-150 both allow the rack mount systems to be powered from 10 to 28 Vdc. The QTC-150 also provides battery backup power.
Portable Systems
All of the system components are integrated together in the portable systems. One model number includes a single input enclosure, input module and power supply. The portable systems require 9 to 25 Vdc power. An AC power adapter is included with them. The available models are shown in the table at lower left.
Connect to a Computer with a Data Acquisition Card
All of the SignalPro systems can be connected to a computer with one of OMEGA’s data acquisition cards. The SignalPro are compatible with the DAQ-1200 ISA card and the DAQP-12A, DAQP-16, DAQP-208 and DAQP-308 PCMCIA cards. Multiple enclosures may be linked to one data acquisition card.
