The WMS-10T weather monitoring system is a personal computer-based data acquisition system for monitoring and recording local outdoor weather conditions.
The WMS-10T uses the analog-to-digital circuitry in the game port of your IBM-compatible computer to encode weather measurements. This makes for easy installation and eliminates the need for external power or batteries. The system includes an anemometer for wind speed measurement, an aerodynamic wind vane, an air temperature sensor, DOS and Windows Software. This combined assembly fits on the end of standard 1" tubing, such as is commonly used for a television antenna mast. A 40' interconnecting cable from the outside unit connects to a small data interface adapter which in turn plugs into the standard joystick input of the PC.
Operating software is supplied in two versions: for MS-DOS, which operates in the foreground, or for Microsoft Windows, which permits background operation. Wind direction is displayed with a pointer which moves around a compass graphic on the display screen. The average wind speed appears in the center of the compass as bold digits, while the peak gust speed appears in a smaller window in the lower left corner of the screen. The outside temperature and high/low extremes for the most recent 24-hour period are also displayed on the left side of the display screen. Records of the conditions may be generated whenever the program is in operation. Files may be generated to either floppy or hard disk drives, each having a label identifying the calendar date of the data. The data is stored in an ASCII text file format, which is easily printed or read into most spreadsheet programs for numerical analysis or graphical plotting.
